  Vulcan's Forge was the first book in the Phillip Mercer series by Jack Du Brul. Vulcan's Forge, was very deserving of a Star Trek hardback. They don't just put any of the trek stories in hardback. Vulcan's Forge is set approximately a year after what happened to Captain Kirk in Star Trek Generations. Captain Spock is now in command of the Intrepid II, which from what I gathered is one those very small Oberth class science ships/5(9). It takes place after Star Trek Generations, and deals with Spock's adventure in the present on the desert planet of Obsidian, and his adventure in the past on the desert planet of Vulcan, both of them with his Human friend David Rabin/5.

The Vulcan, Spock, first appeared in the original Star Trek pilot, "The Cage", shown to studio creator Gene Roddenberry revealed in that he wanted an alien as part of the ship's crew, but knew that budget restraints would limit make-up choices. He chose actor Leonard Nimoy because of his "high Slavic cheekbones and interesting face" and "with those cheekbones some Affiliation: United Federation of Planets.
